Local Workshops and Demos

Create a piece of ‘animalistic human’ art at workshop

animal art

Live animal models provided by Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary, Pacific Wildlife Care, caring owners

Thursday, March 3,10,17, and 24, from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m
at Art Center Morro Bay, located at 835 Main Street in Morro Bay, in the art studio/classroom.

The class fee for two sessions is $100, four sessions for $190, or four sessions online zoom streaming for $80.

– Create an artwork mirroring your psyche through animal form with a guided Jungian approach at an upcoming workshop at Art Center Morro Bay. Each session will include guided focus and silent self-inquiry, anatomy observation, animal symbolism, making collage, notes, sketches, and the creation of the final artwork. You will complete a surreal fusion of your inner self-image with an animal archetype through a live animal model, which will be present at the studio.

Attendees will use different art mediums, techniques, and collage according to their skills. Experience how to remove obstacles and self-judgment, focus on process, and let the art happen. Live animal models are provided in partnership with Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary, Pacific Wildlife Care, and caring owners.

Lead by Barbara Sitar, a visual artist, art curator and 2021 Art Center Morro Bay gallery director. Her sculptures, oil paintIngs, encaustIcs and ceramics explore intuition and creatIve states beyond conventIon. Her art therapy and mentoring work included terminal patients, Roma minorities, young adults and a wide range of artists in Europe and USA. She is currently involved in environmental art and interested in the neuroscience of creative process. This workshop is appropriate for adults of all levels. All art materials and supplies included.

Attendees must wear a mask indoors and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination during the first day of class.

Oil painting workshops with Jason Mayr

The most important decisions about a painting are made before the paint even touches the canvas. Mayr Studio’s new 13-week course “The Wonders of Oil Painting” will begin August 2nd, 2021. This is an essential course for those ready to slow down and take the time required to do it right. The course will cover the process from concept to varnishing your finished piece. Everyone willing to learn, practice, and grow is welcome regardless of your current skill level. There will be 6 weeks of study and preparation, 6 weeks of executing the painting, and 1 week to review and celebrate our time and growth together. These 13 weeks will go by regardless of your decision. But only one decision will result in the tremendous growth of your artistic development.
