DRAWING PLUS: BEYOND THE BASICS
WITH VIRGINIA MACK
You know that a masterpiece lurks within you, but it is elusive. You are a devoted artist, a painter, but each piece is missing something. What is it? How can you push to the next level? You are ready to go Beyond the Basics.
In Drawing Plus: Beyond the Basics, we will work our way through drawing exercises that will further awaken you to the dynamics of painting and drawing: composition, color interactions, the impact of choices of medium. Join us. Your masterpiece awaits!
This is a series of workshops designed to be experienced in an open-ended way. You may continue as long as you wish, or try just one or two sessions. Each month, there will be a new series of dates for the sessions. (If you are an experienced artist, you do not need to take Drawing Plus before taking these workshops.)
Basic materials will be supplied. To enroll, contact Virginia by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or phone: 805-975-5374
WEDNESDAY, JULY 10TH, 17TH, & 24TH, 1:30PM – 4:30PM
WITH VIRGINIA MACK
You are on your kayak, on a walk, or in your yard. What you see before you grabs your attention. At this moment, some would pull out their cameras, but not you. You reach for your drawing pencils, pens, ink, and watercolors. You want to create your response to what you are seeing. This 3-part workshop will build the skills you need to do so.
Learn how to use materials fluidly, moving in and out of media as you respond to subject matter. We will build drawing skills while experimenting with interactions between media: ink work and watercolor washes, open color and pencil work, pen and ink, ink washes, and watercolor. Learn how to build basic forms, textures, and set mood. This class is for both beginning and experienced students. Basic materials provided for the first session.
SATURDAY, JULY 13th & 20th, 11AM – 2PM
WATERCOLOR AND INK RESIST

Students may provide their own half sheet image or use one provided by the instructor. Bring your regular watercolor painting supplies. Students should also bring a few older synthetic brushes for the tempera application as well as an apron. It may also be wise to wear old clothes for India ink use. Meet the NEW Piñata Colors!
5 NEW reasons to love Piñata Color: Golden Yellow, Pink, Coral, Blue-Violet, and Teal!
Piñata Colors are fast-drying, super vibrant alcohol inks for non-porous surfaces like glass, metal, plastic, ceramic, YUPO®, leather, polymer clay and resin. Indelible and impervious to water, Piñata Colors clean up and re-wet with alcohol, allowing for unique effects and techniques not easily achieved with water-based inks.
WHY 5 NEW COLORS? Some colors are more challenging to mix from scratch than others. This is especially true of complex colors like teal and coral. Alcohol ink artists have been asking for these colors, and Jacquard is proud to announce their release.
NEW PIÑATA EXCITER: Jacquard is also proud to introduce the NEW Piñata Overtones Exciter Pack! This collection of 9 alcohol inks includes the 5 NEW colors + Blanco Blanco, Copper, Brass, & Pearl. The Piñata Overtones Exciter Pack makes a superb companion to the original Piñata Exciter Pack, offering a complex palette to compliment the more elementary colors in the original set… coming soon to Art Central!
