Upcoming Exhibit!

Art Reception June 4th, 2-4pm

Almost 50 years ago, a group of young women who wanted to nurture their creative expressions gathered together to share.  They shared art, ideas, information, help, support, and lunch.  There were no rules, leaders, or fees. They had no name, but eventually the term “GROUP,” became the common identifier.  They were never a large group, maybe 13, at the most, and members came and went. But there was a core of 7 who were there at the beginning and still remain.

Today, and for the past 30 years, the same 12 women meet weekly.  They are the GROUP. Over the years, members of the group, individually and together, have had art shows, won awards, taught art to others, and continue to create today, even though “the baby,” is 72.  What started as a need to nurture creative expression, became a lifelong need to create.

The GROUP is a collective group of talented women who share a passion for creative expression. Join Art Central’s Gallery this June and July in a dynamic exhibit “Out of the Blue”.

Artist reception is to be held from 2-4 pm on Saturday, June 4th at the gallery.

Help us to welcome Riki Schumacher!

We are pleased to welcome Riki to Art Central Gallery

A lifelong artist, Riki has explored the realms of photography, jewelry and now painting. Lately, she has been studying and practicing the art of contemporary abstract landscape. Her inspiration comes from her home in Central Coast California and through her extensive travel in Europe. Riki loves exploring, whether outside through hiking, or in her workshop creating landscapes from memory and imagination.

Riki creates her work with cold wax and oil paints, where no heat is involved. This is a long-known practice of mixing a tiny amount of beeswax and medium with oil paints, to produce creamy texture if wanted, or thin glazes creating depth. She strives to give the viewer a bucolic, ethereal and relaxed addition to their collection.

Riki will be attending the Artists Reception for our upcoming show “Out of the Blue” on Saturday, June 4th. Be sure to stop in to meet her and view the new exhibit!

Printmaking Workshop with Artists Rosey and Barbara Rosenthal

The Central Coast Printmakers will be leading a workshop in printmaking. You will learn the difference between relief and intaglio as you work on a linoleum plate. You will use cutting tools in a way that you can print in relief by hand (as you could continue at home).

You will also be taught to ink your plate in the intaglio method (think etching and engraving) and print it with an etching press. In this way, you will have a good introduction to two common printmaking techniques without the use of acid on a metal plate. Experienced printmakers will enjoy experimenting with this process as well.
