You know that a masterpiece lurks within you, but it is elusive. You are a devoted artist, a painter, but each piece is missing something. What is it? How can you push to the next level? You are ready to go Beyond the Basics.
In Drawing Plus: Beyond the Basics, we will work our way through drawing exercises that will further awaken you to the dynamics of painting and drawing: composition, color interactions, the impact of choices of medium. Join us. Your masterpiece awaits!
This is a series of workshops designed to be experienced in an open-ended way. You may continue as long as you wish, or try just one or two sessions. Each month, there will be a new series of dates for the sessions. (If you are an experienced artist, you do not need to take Drawing Plus before taking these workshops.)

BASIC DRAWING – 2nd of 3 class sessions

With a pencil, a drawing pad, and a smile on your face, you are ready!
This series of classes will allow you to gain the skills you need to capture what you see with accuracy and spirit.
In each class, we will address a specific area of drawing, and as you proceed, you will gain confidence and mastery.
We will use a variety of media (samples provided,) and will develop both sketching and drawing techniques. Skill areas will include understanding basic drawing processes, the techniques used with each medium, use of elements (line, shape, volume, value, color, and texture) in developing naturalistic subjects, and principles of composition. The class is designed for both beginners and those with developing drawing skills already in place.

3- hour Acrylic painting workshop with Drew Davis:
Drew has over 18 years experience as a professional artist and 5 years of teaching Art workshops. In this 3 hour acrylic painting workshop, He will break down his creative process used to construct vibrant, energetic paintings in an easy-to-understand way. We will explore how to break down images of flowers to create vibrant representational abstract paintings of them.
He will share various techniques in how to use color and brush strokes to create movement, balance and energy. There will be individual focus that is unique to each persons needs. This class is for all skill levels!
We will be working from printed photos, but you are welcome to bring your own images. We will be doing a warm-up piece and one larger.
SUPPLIES
All painting supplies will be provided, but canvas will need to be purchased prior to class. Please arrive a few minutes early to select your canvas on the day of the workshop. I also encourage you to bring your favorite brushes, tools or paints if you have them.

DEMO: GOLDEN ACRYLICS

GOLDEN PAINTS LECTURE/DEMO

The Golden lecture/demo is a fast paced one and one half-hour free educational presentation on acrylic paints, gels and mediums: an advanced technical explanation of acrylics, and their inherent possibilities. It covers information about the different types of pigments, viscosities, types of paints, grounds and color mixing. Various gels and mediums are demonstrated. Did you know you can alter the surface and the texture with Gels? Do you know which Gels you like? You will learn many ways to paint and advance your work. I will explain the properties of Heavy Body, Fluids, and High Flow.
The possibilities will blow your mind.
You will learn how to extend paint to save money, and how to mix paints with gels to create unique textural surfaces. Get key information on color mixing, blending and controlling drying time. Learn how to use different products to make surfaces for watercolors, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil and soft pastels. Techniques for the use of iridescent and interference paints will be shown. The lecture covers, lightfastness of pigments and health and safety concerns.
A packet of literature and free samples of paint and gels are available for all those who attend.

CLASS: GOLDEN ACRYLICS

PAINTING SYMBOLS
WITH JUDY GITTELSOHN
FEE: $70
Transform letters, words and symbols into paintings with GOLDEN Paints Certified Instructor, Judy Gittelsohn. In this workshop, students will explore the interpretive nature of words and their meanings, by choosing letters, dissecting them, and responding to them using various Golden Paints and mediums. This is an opportunity to be a poet, a painter, a priest…(you might need other certification to be the priest) but the poet and painter, you can do here with me. Learn how to use Golden materials and at the same time learn how to mine your mind. Find things that are familiar and turn them into tender, sensitive and meaningful poetry through the medium of paint. We will explore Golden Heavy Body Acrylics, Golden Fluid Acrylics, Golden High Flow Acrylics and Golden Gels. This is an intense course for all levels of abilities. If you can write, you can paint. If you can paint, you can dramatically change the way you perceive and process experiences and emotions.

CLASS: BOOKMAKING
NOVEMBER 9TH, 12:30PM – 4PM
BOOKMAKING

People say that the book is going out of style. But for artists and writers, it will always be important for practicing and keeping their ideas. Learn how to make a small (7-1/2 X 5-1/2) sketchbook or journal starting with the pages. You will learn to tear the pages, sew them together, attach a cover and finish the book. Books make great gifts. Please call or email me to reserve your space. Money or check must be paid in advance and cannot be refunded unless I cancel the class. We need a minimum of 5 people, so feel free to bring a friend!
Materials you need to bring to the class:
2 pieces Arches Cover (printmaking paper) or watercolor paper or colored drawing paper (about 30”x20”)
1 piece fabric (at least 17”x17”) (you can use old clothes like jeans or favorite cotton shirts)
1 sheet of decorative paper
1 bone folder
Scissors
Small bottle of PH Neutral PVA glue (it says it is ideal for bookbinding)
Waxed linen thread
Binder’s needle or heavy duty craft needle
(Art Central has most of these materials)
