Mary Lou Johnson: Introduction to the Basics of Italic Script Calligraphy
Saturday August 12th 10:30am to 3:30pm with 1 hour lunch break
Fee: $40 for 3 hour class
Suitable for beginners or tune up for Italic hand lettering.
Class members will learn basics of using a broad edge pen to produce the beautiful thick and thin patterns of the Italic Script or Italic Calligraphy. Several brands of ink will be available for use as well as 3 styles of broad edge pen; Speedball C-2, Felt tip 2.5mm and Pilot Parallel pen 2.4. Pen patterns, stroke families and the Italic “recipe” for letter height and angle will be introduced. Paper suitable for lettering will be on hand as well as tools to make future lettering projects much easier. Resources are listed on my website for future references.

Mary Lou Johnson: Funky Letters with Pilot Parallel Pens
Sunday August 13th 1 to 3pm
Fee: $30 for 2 hour class
Suitable for beginners or anyone who would like to add an informal lettering style to their art.
Class members will learn basics of using a broad edge Pilot Parallel pen to produce the bouncy, flourished strokes of the Funky Lettering style. This pen can skip, lift and roll to create amazing strokes. Any water-soluble ink, water color or walnut ink works with this pen in a continual stroke suitable for letters, drawing, pen patterns. I will be using Lisa Englebrecht’s Funky letters featured in her book, Modern Calligraphy and Hand Lettering. Additional resources are listed on my website for future references.
Class materials list: Pilot Parallel Pen in size 2.4 mm or 3.8 mm, plus lots of copy paper for practice. Arches Text wove will be available for purchase and try outs. Leave the rules at the door and prepare to create your own alphabet!

Mary Lou Johnson will letter free name tags for book marks using a broad edge pen with several different inks as well as water colors. She will also demo Pilot Parallel pens with color blending. Pen patterns with the broad edged pen (Speedball Nibs and Pilot Parallel pens will also be demonstrated.
